Rajat Patidar Wiki, Age, Height, Net Worth 2026

Rajat Patidar is an Indian cricketer who captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first Indian Premier League title in 2025, ending the franchise’s 18-year wait. The Indore right-hander went from unsold at the 2022 IPL auction to lifting the trophy as captain three years later, and on 2 November 2026 he was named vice-captain of the India A squad for the ACC Men’s Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, serving as deputy to Tilak Varma. Like fellow IPL batter Devdutt Padikkal, Patidar built his career on heavy domestic runs before his IPL breakthrough.

Early Life

Rajat Patidar was born on 1 June 1993 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, according to his player profiles and RCB records, which made him 33 years old in November 2026. He comes from a business family in Indore: his father, Manohar Patidar, deals in agricultural pumps trade, and his mother, Rekha Patidar, is a homemaker who supported his cricket from childhood. He took up cricket at the age of eight, was enrolled in an academy by his grandfather, and began as a bowler before switching his focus to batting in his under-15 years.

His path was interrupted early by a serious knee injury. An anterior cruciate ligament injury kept him out of cricket for around eight months, and his parents initially wanted him to join the family business instead. He persuaded them to continue, trained under MPCA coach Amay Khurasiya, and made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy season, scoring a century early on. He scored a century in the 2022 Ranji Trophy final against Mumbai, helping Madhya Pradesh lift the title.

Career

Patidar’s IPL story is one of the league’s great turnarounds. Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked him up ahead of IPL 2021, but he scored only 71 runs in four matches and was released. He then went unsold at the 2022 mega auction and had fixed his wedding date, only for RCB to call him mid-season as a replacement for the injured Luvnith Sisodia. He seized the chance, scoring 333 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 152.50, and his defining knock came in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens, where he smashed 112 not out off 54 balls, reaching his century off 49 balls to become the first uncapped player to score a century in the IPL playoffs.

Patidar made his ODI debut against South Africa in December 2023, scoring 22 off 16 balls, and made his Test debut against England at Visakhapatnam on 2 February 2024, scoring 32 and 9. His three-Test stint brought only 63 runs in six innings, and an Achilles injury ruled him out of IPL 2023 entirely, but he returned strongly in 2024 with 395 runs in 13 innings. Retained for ₹11 crore ahead of the 2025 season, he was named RCB captain on 13 February 2025, a bold call given the franchise’s history.

He scored 312 runs in 15 matches in IPL 2025 and led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden IPL title with a six-run win over Punjab Kings in the final at Ahmedabad on 3 June 2025. He became the first RCB captain to lift the trophy, and the first Indian to win the IPL as captain without a T20I cap. On 2 November 2026 the BCCI named him vice-captain of the India A squad for the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha from 19 to 29 November 2026.

Personal Life

Rajat Patidar is married to Gunjan Patidar, who hails from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. The couple had planned to marry on 9 May 2022, but Patidar postponed the wedding at the last moment after RCB’s mid-season call-up, with the family planning a small July function once his Ranji commitments ended. They married later in 2022 in a private ceremony, with several reports putting the date at 7 July 2022, and multiple outlets reported the couple welcomed a baby boy on 19 March 2026.

He belongs to the Patidar community of Madhya Pradesh, and his rise is a story of patience: dropped, unsold and injured, yet still scoring runs until opportunity returned. He is known for his calmness under pressure, a trait he pointed to after the 2025 triumph, saying his strength lay in backing his instincts.
