Everest Leydecker Wiki, Age, Height, Net Worth 2026

Everest Leydecker is an American freestyle wrestler who won senior world gold at 55 kg at the 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, at the age of 19. Competing as a first year student at the University of Iowa, she beat Nataliia Klivchutska of Ukraine 4-1 in the final on 30 October 2026, a win that also clinched the United States women’s freestyle team title. Like fellow world medallists Kennedy Blades and Adaugo Nwachukwu, Leydecker reached the senior podium after age group success, including two under 20 world titles. Her Astana run combined tight defence and composure in close bouts.

Early Life

Everest Leydecker was born on September 20, 2007, according to USA Wrestling and her University of Iowa profile, and she grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. She is the daughter of Randy and Shelly Leydecker, and her father, Randy, wrestled at Arizona State University and later became her personal coach. Her father was in her corner when she won senior world gold in Astana.

Leydecker first trained in jiu-jitsu and took up wrestling seriously in around eighth grade, according to reports about her early career. She wrestled at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix before finishing her school career at Valiant College Prep, also in Phoenix. The Arizona Interscholastic Association cleared her to wrestle in the boys division, an exception granted a year at a time, and that experience against boys competition helped build the physical style that later defined her senior wrestling.

Her age group record showed world class promise while she was still at school. She finished 20th at the 2023 under 17 World Championships, then won under 17 and under 20 Pan American titles in 2024. She became the number one ranked high school girls wrestler in the United States on a pound for pound basis, and she signed for the University of Iowa, the leading programme in NCAA women’s wrestling. She arrived in Iowa City with senior level results already on her record.

Career

Leydecker moved into senior competition while still a high school junior in 2025, when she finished runner up at the United States Open and won the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament without conceding a point. That August, at 17, she won under 20 world gold at 55 kg in Samokov, Bulgaria, with three technical falls in her first three bouts. She then lost twice to Cristelle Rodriguez in the 2025 Final X series, so her first senior world team place had to wait another year.

Her 2026 season built steadily toward Astana. She won the United States Open title at 55 kg by beating Areana Villaescusa 4-1, then won Pan American gold in Coralville, Iowa, without surrendering a point. She swept Villaescusa 2-1 and 3-1 at Final X to earn her first senior world team place, and she added gold at the Zagreb Open ranking series event. Each step confirmed her as the top American at 55 kg for the 2026-27 season, according to USA Wrestling.

Before Astana, Leydecker competed at two more world championships in 2026. In August she pinned Nana Kozuka of Japan to win a second straight under 20 world title in Bratislava, Slovakia, becoming only the fourth American woman with two under 20 gold medals. Two weeks before the senior championships she took bronze at the under 23 World Championships in Las Vegas, losing only to the eventual champion, Gerda Terek of Hungary, before beating Ulmeken Esenbaeva of Uzbekistan 11-0 in the bronze medal match.

At the 2026 Senior World Championships in Astana, Leydecker won all four of her bouts at 55 kg. According to the University of Iowa, she opened with a 2-1 decision over Karla Godinez Gonzalez of Canada, then won by fall in 3 minutes 55 seconds against Anastasia Blayvas of Germany. She beat Nagisa Harada of Japan 6-1 in the semifinal, then led Klivchutska 1-0 at the break of the final before sealing a 4-1 win with a late two point exposure. USA Wrestling reported that her gold clinched the United States women’s freestyle team title, the country’s first since 1999, and NBC Sports reported that she became the second youngest American woman to win a senior world title.

Personal Life

Leydecker keeps her private life largely out of public view, and no reliable source reports a spouse or partner for the 19 year old as of November 2026. Her public story centres on family, school and wrestling, with her father as both parent and coach and her mother, Shelly, also visible in her support network. Reports about her career describe a focused athlete whose move from jiu-jitsu to wrestling shaped her scrambling and mat awareness.

As an Iowa freshman, Leydecker had not yet wrestled a college dual when she won senior world gold. Her next steps are therefore tied to both college wrestling and the senior international calendar, with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games a stated long term ambition from her recruiting interviews. The 55 kg class is not an Olympic weight, according to NBC Sports, so her route to 2028 may require a change of weight in future seasons.
