Mohan Yadav was interested in politics from his childhood age. He was a member of ABVP. He was elected for the Ujjain South constituency and won over Congress candidate Jaysingh Darbar in 2013 (From 9652 votes). He was elected 2nd time once again from Ujjain South with 18960 votes to defeat a Congress candidate named Rajendra Vashishtha Raju Bhaiya (2018).

In the Ujjain Master Plan, the 2035 development project started in July 2023, the land use of 185 out of 872 acres reserved for Ujjainsimhastha was changed from agricultural land to residential land and freed, 27 acres of it are in the name of Mohan Yadav and his family member and BJP Councillor in Ujjain Municipal Corporation.
Some more land is also under the name of his servant. It is alleged that this is done under the guise of Master Plan 2035 and changes to it demanded by poor families whose houses were situated on the land reserved for the Simhastha. When journalists asked questions of the officers, he refused to comment on the project.
