Arvind Kumar Sharma career started in 1996 when he was contested and won the 11th Lok Sabha elections from Sonipat by defeating SAP candidate Rijaq Ram by a margin of over 40,000 votes.
In 2004, he was re-elected in 14th Lok Sabha elections from Karnal by defeating BJP candidate I.D. Swami by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.
In 2009, he won the 15th Lok Sabha elections from Karnal by defeating BSP candidate Maratha Virender Verma by a margin of over 50,000 votes but he lost the elections in 2014 against the BJP candidate Ashwini Kumar.
In 2019, he contested and won 17th Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak as a BJP candidate and defeated Congress candidate Deepender Singh Hooda by margin of 7000 votes.
