Aileen Cannon worked from 2008 to 2009 as a law clerk for Steven Colloton, a conservative judge serving on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Lowa. After her clerkship, she joined the Washington, D.C. Office of the corporate law firm Gibson Dunn, where she served as an associate from 2009 to 2012.

During her time at Gibson Dunn, Cannon was involved in a notable case in 2011, where she defended former Stephen “Henry” Brinck Jr. leader of the fixed income desk at Thomas Wiesel Partners. Brink’s was eventually cleared of fraud charges by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Subsequently, from 2013 to 2020, she held the position of assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of Florida. As a federal prosecutor, she initially prosecuted drugs, firearms, and immigration crimes in the major crime division and worked to handle matters.

Guidelines recommended a range of 33 to 41 months in prison, the prosecutor proposed 41 months, she sentenced Hoffer to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $2000 fine. In July 2022, she presided over the case of 31-year-old former Sewall Point Police officer Juna Antonio Garcia, who was convicted of having sex with a teenage boy.

She sentenced Garcia to 25 years in federal prison with additional time served. Sentenced to 20 years supervision and a $10,000 fine. Sentencing guidelines suggested a range from 15 years to life in prison, while federal prosecutors requested no more than 30 years in prison.
