Levi Haines Wiki, Age, Net Worth 2026

Levi Haines is an American freestyle wrestler who won senior world gold at 79 kg at the 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 1 November 2026, beating Mohammad Nokhodilarimi of Iran 4-3 in the final. The victory, reported by USA Wrestling and NBC Sports, lifted him from silver at the 2025 World Championships to gold a year later and helped the United States win the men’s freestyle team title. His rise from Pennsylvania school wrestling to world champion follows a path familiar from profiles such as Kennedy Blades and Aman Sehrawat, fellow freestyle wrestlers who have reached Olympic podiums.

Early Life

Levi David Haines was born on 5 August 2004 in Arendtsville, Pennsylvania, and grew up in a deeply sporting family in Adams County. He is the son of Aimee and Ken Haines: his father wrestled and played soccer at Lock Haven University, while his mother played field hockey and lacrosse there, according to USA Wrestling. His older sister is Julia, and his uncle Chris Haines wrestled at Lock Haven, so wrestling was part of family life from the start.

Haines wrestled at Biglerville High School, where he compiled a 100-5 record across three seasons, won a Pennsylvania state title as a junior and finished as state runner-up twice. He captained the team as a junior, then gave up his senior school season to move to State College and train with college wrestlers. He trained regularly with former Penn State star and Olympic champion David Taylor and coach Cael Sanderson, betting his development on full time training rather than a final school year.

That gamble paid off at Penn State, where he wrestled four straight seasons from 2022 to 2026 without using a redshirt. He broke into the starting lineup as a true freshman and reached the NCAA final at 157 pounds in 2023, finishing as runner-up in his first college season. That early success set up one of the most accomplished college careers in recent Penn State history.

Career

At Penn State, Haines won two NCAA Division I titles in different weight classes, at 157 pounds in 2024 and at 174 pounds in 2026, and he finished third in 2025. He won four Big Ten titles, in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, becoming one of only four Penn State wrestlers to win four conference crowns, alongside Ed Ruth, Aaron Brooks and David Taylor. He was a four time All-American and finished college with a 99-4 record, including a perfect 26-0 season in 2025-26 capped by a 2-1 win over Christopher Minto of Nebraska in the 2026 NCAA final.

His freestyle career rose alongside his college success, with under 23 world gold at Novi Sad in 2025 and senior world silver at Zagreb later that year. He then won Pan American gold at Coralville, Iowa, in 2026, going 4-0 and outscoring opponents 44-2. At Final X in Newark in June 2026 he beat Chance Marsteller in both matches of their series to earn a second straight place on the United States senior world team.

At Astana, Haines started with a fall over Mohammed Bouazouni of Morocco in 1 minute 30 seconds. He then beat Ismail Khaniev of Russia 8-1 in the quarterfinal and edged Suldkhuu Olonbayar of Mongolia 3-3 on criteria in the semifinal. The final was decided by takedowns in each period, with Haines scoring the decisive second takedown to win 4-3 and clinch the men’s freestyle team title for the United States.

After Astana, Haines remained in State College training with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, with Los Angeles 2028 the obvious long term target. His college future had been uncertain through autumn 2026, because a legal dispute over a possible fifth season for 2022 recruits left his eligibility unresolved. Whatever the outcome of that dispute, his senior world title confirmed him as a leading American freestyle wrestler at 79 kg.

Personal Life

Haines is known as an outdoorsman as much as a wrestler, with his life away from the mat centred on hunting, fishing and camping in rural Pennsylvania. FloWrestling has described him as an avid hunter and fisherman who spends free time scouting hunting spots, checking trail cameras and field dressing deer. His Penn State coach Cael Sanderson has called him kind, genuine and popular with teammates, a wrestler the programme would miss as much as anyone who had come through it.

A March 2026 York Daily Record profile mentioned Haines staying in State College with his wife after graduation, but gave no name or wedding details, and no fuller account of his marriage has been publicly reported. USA Wrestling lists him as residing in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, close to the Penn State wrestling room where he has trained since his school days. Beyond family, fishing and wrestling, he keeps his private life largely out of public view.
