Abigail Nette Wiki, Age, Height, Net Worth 2026

Abigail Nette, known as Abby Nette, is an American freestyle wrestler and United States Army soldier-athlete who won the silver medal in the women’s 59kg category at the World Wrestling Championships 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan. She reached the final after pinning Mariia Vynnyk of Ukraine in the semi-final, then lost the gold-medal bout 8-6 to Manisha Bhanwala on 30 October 2026 after leading 6-0. The medal capped a long climb for a two-time college national champion and 2026 Pan American champion. Her run also crossed paths with other Indian wrestlers of the same championships, including Tanu Sharma, whose own progress has drawn attention in India.

Early Life

Abigail Nette was born on 10 November 1997, according to her USA Wrestling profile, and grew up in Louisiana. Her father wrestled in high school, and when she was six years old he took her to the Louisiana State Championships and asked whether she wanted to try the sport. She said yes, and she has said she has loved wrestling ever since. Her two older brothers did not wrestle, so she largely made the sport her own from that first tournament visit onward.

As a young athlete she played several sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball, and she ran track for a year, according to a USA Wrestling interview. She attended Destrehan High School in Louisiana, and Campbellsville University lists her hometown as St. Rose, Louisiana. USA Wrestling credits her as a four-time high school All-American, a record that marked her out early as one of the country’s promising young women wrestlers.

By her own account, she was not sure in high school that she would wrestle in college, which makes her later college success all the more striking. She went on to win a Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association national title with Emmanuel College in 2019, then transferred to Campbellsville University in Kentucky. As a Campbellsville senior she went 15-0, competing mainly at 130 pounds, and won her second WCWA national title, finishing her four-year college career as a three-time WCWA All-American. In 2020 she received the Patricia Miranda Medal, given to an outstanding women’s college wrestler.

Career

Nette made her first United States national team in 2019, the same year she won the United States Senior National title in Fort Worth, Texas, in December 2019, according to USA Wrestling. She also represented the United States at the Under-23 World Championships in 2018 and 2019, competing in Budapest, Hungary, in 2019. USA Wrestling lists her as a two-time age-group world team member, and her senior career was built steadily on that early international experience.

Her first senior world team place came in 2022, when she won a best-of-three Final X series 2-0 against Lexie Basham in Stillwater, Oklahoma. As a soldier-athlete with the Army World Class Athlete Program, based in Colorado Springs, she went on to win a silver medal at the 2024 CISM Military World Championships, according to USA Wrestling. The year 2025 brought a setback at Final X, where she lost the deciding third match of the 59kg world team series to Jacarra Winchester, a close friend as well as a rival.

The year 2026 brought a resurgence. USA Wrestling reported that she won bronze medals at the first two United World Wrestling Ranking Series events of the year, then won gold at the Pan American Championships. She also won the United States Open title, beating Alexis Janiak 11-0 by technical fall in the semi-finals in Las Vegas, and then won their Final X series in Newark, New Jersey, in June 2026 to secure the world team place at 59kg.

At the World Championships in Astana, Nette pinned Mariia Vynnyk of Ukraine in the semi-final to reach the gold-medal bout. In the final on 30 October 2026 she led Manisha Bhanwala of India 6-0 before Manisha battled back to win 8-6, and Nette took the silver medal. USA Wrestling ranks her number one at 59kg for the 2026-27 season, her sixth season on Team USA, with Nate Engel listed as her personal coach.

Personal Life

Nette’s father, John Nette, was a 1978 Louisiana state wrestling champion, and he was a constant presence at her competitions, according to FloWrestling. He died of cancer on 26 February 2025 at the age of 64, while his daughter was competing at a ranking tournament in Albania. She has spoken of their close bond, saying that although her father was not perfect, she never had to ask whether he would show up for her. She wrote his obituary on the journey home from Albania.

Beyond wrestling, Nette studied fitness and wellness in college and has said she could see herself working as a nutritionist, dietitian or coach after her competitive career ends. No reliable public source confirms a spouse or partner, and no such claim is made here. She trains in Colorado Springs with the Army World Class Athlete Program, where her daily life is built around training, recovery and military duties.
