Tanu Sharma Wiki, Age, Height, Net Worth 2026

Tanu Sharma is an Indian freestyle wrestler from Haryana who won a bronze medal in the women’s 72kg category at the World Wrestling Championships 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 29 October 2026. She beat Precious Rosanna Bell of the United States 9-5 in the bronze-medal bout, as reported by PTI and The Indian Express, in what was her first senior World Championships. Earlier in 2026 she had won silver at the U20 World Championships, completing a rapid rise from junior wrestling to a senior world medal in the same year. She competed alongside fellow Indian wrestlers such as Sujeet Kalkal and Antim Panghal, whose senior international careers began earlier.

Early Life

Tanu Sharma comes from Bhaklana village in Hansi district, Haryana, and she is the only athlete in her family, according to The New Indian Express. Her father, Virender Sharma, is a Sanskrit teacher at a government school, and her mother, Suman Lata, is a homemaker, as reported by The Indian Express and The New Indian Express. She is the second of three siblings: her elder sister Priyanka has completed an MA and B.Ed, while her younger brother Aditya was a Class XI student preparing for a career in medicine. The family background is academic rather than sporting, and Tanu’s interest in sport stood out from an early age.

Her uncle, Narendra Fauji, encouraged her to take up wrestling after noticing her physique and interest in sport, according to The Indian Express. She began training under coach Sanjay Sihag at a young age and later joined the Altius Public School and Wrestling Academy, which combined wrestling training under Sihag with regular academics. Sihag told The Indian Express that she joined the academy at the age of 14, in Class VIII, and stood out for her dedication and for studying bouts of senior wrestlers after training. She later moved to the Sports Authority of India academy in Hisar, as reported by The New Indian Express, and she had appeared for her BA final-year examinations by August 2026.

Career

Tanu Sharma’s first major international result came at the U20 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, in August 2026, where she won silver in the 72kg category. She opened her campaign with a 6-0 win over Petra Mueller of Hungary and then beat Liliana Kazmina 9-5 to reach the semi-final, according to The New Indian Express. She won the semi-final 11-0 by technical superiority against Zahra Karimzada of Azerbaijan before losing the final 5-3 to Chisato Yoshida of Japan, despite leading 3-0 at one stage, as reported by Times Now. The silver marked her arrival as a junior wrestler to watch.

Her senior debut followed at the World Wrestling Championships 2026 in Astana. She lost her opening bout 12-2 to Wiktoria Choluj of Poland, who went on to reach the final, according to The New Indian Express. Because Choluj reached the final, Tanu entered the repechage with a medal still possible, and she edged past Zaineb Sghaier of Tunisia, described by The Indian Express as the reigning African champion, 5-4 earlier on 29 October 2026. That win set up the bronze-medal bout against Bell, the reigning Pan American champion.

In the bronze-medal bout, Tanu beat Bell 9-5 to secure her first senior World Championships medal on her debut, as reported by PTI. Her father, who does not watch her bouts because of nervousness, was pacing at home in Bhaklana, The Indian Express reported. The bronze capped what The Indian Express called a great debut year at senior level. Sihag told the newspaper that, with better conditioning, she could become a world-class wrestler at 68kg or 72kg.

Personal Life

Tanu Sharma keeps her private life largely out of public view, and reporting about her has focused on her family and training rather than on relationships or interests away from wrestling. No reliable public source confirms a spouse or partner, and no such claim is made here. Her father told The New Indian Express that the family, including his wife, had always encouraged Tanu once she decided to pursue wrestling professionally, and that his wife in particular wanted the children to choose their own careers.

Education has remained part of her story alongside wrestling. The New Indian Express reported in August 2026 that she had appeared for her BA final-year examinations and was awaiting results, and it reported in October 2026 that she had cleared those examinations. Sihag also stressed the value of education for wrestlers, telling The Indian Express that it helped game intelligence and describing Tanu as a wrestler who used both strength and judgement on the mat. Beyond her family, schooling and training, no verified public record describes her daily routine or endorsements, so this biography does not speculate about them.
