Sombr Wiki, Age, Height, Net Worth 2026

sombr (stylised in lowercase) is the professional name of Shane Michael Boose, an American singer, songwriter and record producer who has become one of the defining voices of Gen Z indie-pop. Raised on New York’s Lower East Side, he writes and largely produces his own songs — aching, bedroom-born confessionals about young love and heartbreak that travel from TikTok to arenas. His self-made single “back to friends” and its follow-up “undressed” both cracked the US Billboard Hot 100, his debut album I Barely Know Her (2025) reached the Billboard 200 top ten and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and in 2026 he has kept climbing with new singles, a George Michael tribute at the MTV VMAs and a sold-out headlining tour.

Early Life and Education

Shane Michael Boose was born on 5 July 2005 in New York City and grew up on the Lower East Side in a creative household. He began making music in his bedroom while studying at the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, where he focused on classical composition and later vocal performance. He left school before graduating to pursue music full-time, moving to Los Angeles after labels came calling.

Career

Sombr’s first spark came in 2022, when the then-17-year-old posted “caroline” online and watched it blow up on TikTok. Major-label attention followed, and he was signed at 17. His debut EP, In Another Life, arrived in 2023. The turn came with “back to friends”, released at the end of 2024. Sombr made it entirely on his own — no outside production — dropped it during one of the quietest release weeks of the year, and kept posting about it on his socials. The song climbed onto the Billboard Hot 100 as his first chart entry, topping Billboard’s Rock Streaming Songs and Alternative Streaming Songs charts and eventually passing a billion Spotify streams, per NBC reporting. “undressed” followed it up the Hot 100 and hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, per American Songwriter.

His debut studio album, I Barely Know Her, released in August 2025, was written entirely by sombr and co-produced with Tony Berg. It reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart and No. 14 on the all-genre Billboard 200, spawning the additional singles “12 to 12” and “we never dated”. The album cycle brought a late-night debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a win for the “back to friends” video at the MTV VMAs, an SNL musical-guest debut on 8 November 2025 alongside host Nikki Glaser, and a first headlining run, The Late Nights and Young Romance Tour, that sold out in seconds. By then he was reportedly drawing more than 50 million monthly Spotify listeners.

2026 has kept the momentum. The album earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and he released the singles “homewrecker” and “my body isn’t ready” — the latter a collaboration with Tom Odell that he performed live with Odell in Glendale, Arizona in October 2026. On 27 September 2026 he took the stage at the MTV VMAs for a tribute to George Michael, performing in Michael’s actual customised Faith Tour leather jacket alongside Teddy Swims, RAYE and Adam Lambert. His You Are The Reason Tour has been filling arenas, including a Honda Center stop in Anaheim on 9 October 2026. And on 4 October 2026 he went viral for a softer reason: in a TikTok, he surprised a fan by performing in the blue crocheted top she had handmade and gifted him before the show — a clip widely covered by People and other outlets after the fan was filmed in tears at the gesture.

Personal Life

Sombr is now based in Los Angeles and keeps his romantic life out of the spotlight; publicly reported biographies list him as single with no children. His parents are Andy Boose and Bennah Serfaty, and he has an older sister, Amelie, per published biographical profiles.
