Manika Batra was born on 15th June 1995 (Age: 26 years; As in 2021) in Naraina Vihar, Delhi. Her zodiac sign is Gemini. Her nationality is India. Her birthplace and hometown is in Delhi. Her profession is Table Tennis player.

Since childhood, she is started playing table tennis at the age of 4. During her school days, she trained under coach mentor Sandeep Gupta who ran his academy in Hans Raj Model School. 

Education/Qualification

She completed her secondary education from Hans Raj Model School, New Delhi. After that she joined Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi but due to her focus on table tennis she dropped the college studies and fully focused on playing table tennis.

She belongs to Hindu religion family. Her father Girish Batra and mother Sushma Batra, both are very supportive to her to play table tennis as a career. When she was at the age of 4, her elder sister Anchal and elder brother Sahil both played table tennis and she influenced by her playing as table tennis as career. She is unmarried and single only focuses on her table tennis career only.

Career

She started her career when she won state level under-8 tournament. At the age of 13, she represented India on an International level tournament. In 2011, she won the silver medal in under 21 category of Chile Open.

In 2014, she represented India at 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow and as well as 2014 Asian Games finished as quarterfinalist. In 2015, she won three medals at Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships with Ankita Das and Mouma Das as well as in women’s doubles and won bronze medal in woman’s singles event.

In 2016, she won three gold medals at South Asian Games in Guwahati Shillong and one silver medal in women’s singles. In 2018, she won two gold, one silver, and one bronze at Commonwealth Games and also won 2018 Jakarta mixed doubles and won bronze medal.

In 2021, she failed to secure medal at 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she reached the 3rd round of women’s singles and defeated Margaryta Pesotska.

Awards

  • On 25th December 2018, she was awarded prestigious Arjuna Award by Indian President Ramnath Kovind.
  • In 2020, she was awarded prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna – Highest Sporting Honour of India by Indian Government.
